Swine Flu: Biggest Scam of 2009 Begins, Millions Prepare to “Protect Their Health”

Modern society is preparing for its most recent plague, which will quite possibly be the most dangerous thing to happen to humanity since the last great outbreak: the release of the Swine Flu vaccination. That’s right, not the flu, the “prevention.”

A “top news story” featured on AOL this morning with the brazen title “2,000 Students at Washington State University Have Swine Flu.”

The article says that “More than 2,000 students at Washington State University have come down with swine flu symptoms in just the first week of classes, school officials said Friday” (Emphasis mine).

The alarmist and socially irresponsible title says the students “have the swine flu.” The article says that they have swine flu symptoms. What does that even mean? A runny nose? No doubt this information is based on self-reporting (like much of the “information” we have on the Swine Flu), which means that most of the students were probably hung over from the ‘first week of classes’ and reported these symptoms as potentially being the Swine Flu – because that’s what everyone is telling them it probably is.

No other information is provided in this fear-mongering article which serves no purpose other than to spread media hype in an attempt to grease the American population for the arrival of the soon-to-be-released Swine Flu vaccinations, coming soon to a doctor near you.

The article goes on to say that “A presidential panel estimates that upward of half of the U.S. population could come down with the H1N1 this year.” Oh my God, really?

Read what the Federal Health Minister of Australia has to say about the Swine Flu:

In Australia, where the winter season has begun, Federal Health Minister Nicola Roxon is reassuring parents the swine flu is no more dangerous than regular seasonal flu. “Most people, including children, will experience very mild symptoms and recover without any medical intervention,” she said.”

The article goes on to discuss that the Swine Flu is no more dangerous than any other seasonal flu, and will likely be responsible for possibly 100 death in the United States. Meanwhile, we will be mass-injecting over 75 million people with a vaccine that has been proven to be dangerous to our nervous systems.

This article
discusses Squalene, an ingredient in the Swine Flu that has been linked to very adverse symptoms which are probably worse than the Swine Flu.

As someone who works in marketing, I know a “pre-sell” when I see one. Pre-selling is an extremely powerful sales tactic in which a source that seems reputable (ie. the target audience is likely to trust the source) begins to subtly convince the intended victim, er, customer, that an upcoming product or service is worthwhile in order to increase the likelihood of selling the product once it arrives.

Dictionary.com says pre-selling is:
2) To promote (a product not yet on the market) by means of advertising.
3) To condition (a potential customer) in advance for later purchase of a product.

“But the Swine Flu vaccine is not a product ,” you say, “it’s intended to save the lives of millions of Americans!”

First of all, countless health officials and medical professionals do not agree – and I’ll bet most are afraid to speak up. Secondly, the vaccine absolutely is a product, and the drug companies are bracing themselves for the billions of dollars they are about to receive from the sale of Swine Flu vaccines.

The “pandemic” is nothing but a combination of very good marketing on the part of Drug companies, and the fear-mongering of a bunch of lemmings, the media, who maintain their station in our society by spreading fear, misinformation and half-truths.

Most people in the mainstream media are most likely just stupid, or irresponsible at worst. On the other hand, the drug companies are downright profit-hungry murderers, a plague on their fellow human beings (if they can be called humans at all).

They use us as guinea pigs for profit.

It’s difficult to blame this one on the stupidity of the American public because this is one of the most well-planned and well-executed marketing ploys in history, and one that plays on the natural human fear to protect one’s health.

How many parents will unknowingly damage their child’s future health, in an ironic attempt to protect their health, in the coming year? How will we damage future generations of humanity with our drug experimentation?

I have no doubt that future generations will look back on these last few decades as an atrocity in the annals of human history, much like we now think about shock treatment and lobotomies to cure “mental illnesses” that were largely imagined.

As has been said before, “want to become a millionaire? Invent a disease and market the cure.”

Legal Disclaimer for the sake of our litigious society and drug companies which have far more money than I do: I am not a doctor and all of this is my opinion. You would be advised not to listen to anything I have written here and discuss your health with a doctor before making any decisions about the Swine Flu vaccination.

  12. skepticaldoc says:

This is an interesting perspective. I think you are absolutely correct that this has been over-hyped, and it could be in part because of the vaccine, but I think there’s a lot more to it. What about the producers of Tamiflu, and the companies that manufacture the tests for the virus? The producers of the N-95 masks? What about how “great” the CDC will look as it averts the impending “disaster”? As someone who is seeing this from the perspective of a laboratorian, there are indeed a lot of confirmed cases of it (in my community anyway), however so far almost all of them are just as mild as the seasonal influenza. And yet, there is this widespread panic in the media, and also by supposedly reputable sources such as the CDC. Seemingly out of nowhere, the CDC started issuing warnings last month about the lack of sensitivity of the tests we are currently using to detect the virus, and recommendations to use PCR testing. PCR probably doesn’t mean much to most non-medical people, but what you ought to know is that it’s about 10 times more expensive than the little rapid card tests that many doctors’ offices and community laboratories use. So now, we have people coming in and insisting that they must have this 200-300 dollar test to confirm what we already know based on clinical symptoms-that they have the flu. And, oh yeah, everyone thinks they need Tamiflu, despite the fact that it only decreases length of symptoms and viral shedding by about a day. It’s unclear how much (if anything) insurance companies and medicare/medicaid will pay for all the testing and treatment that is -in the eyes of many medical professionals- unnecessary at this time.

That’s not to say that things won’t change in the fall/winter. Could the virus become more aggressive and have high mortality like in 1918? Maybe. Maybe not. But we are trying to predict the unpredictable right now, and basically everyone is trying to cover their posteriors by assuming it will be the worst case scenario. In the meantime, the companies that manufacture the vaccine, drugs, N-95 masks, and laboratory tests are without a doubt captializing on the uncertainty.

  13. thestupidamerican says:

Thank you doctor. It is refreshing to hear the perspective of someone in the medical community who deals with this on a regular basis, because detractors of this point of view seem to always fall back on “Oh yeah? Talk to a doctor.” So it would appear that we just have.

It is even more refreshing to hear most of what you say mirror exactly what has been presented here. No one is saying that the Swine Flu does not exist, but rather that it is incredibly over-hyped, no where near as dangerous as the media is portraying, and that many if not most of the impetus behind this portrayal is based in monetary gain for select individuals at the expense of the American population.

I didn’t even touch on the most important aspect of this entire issue, that the vast majority of illnesses can be prevented with proper nutrition, regular exercise, proper sleep, vitamin supplementation if necessary, probiotics and sanitary habits – almost all of which the American population is severely ignorant of and deficient in.

That is an entirely different discussion, but nonetheless I believe that this ignorance, coupled with greedy drug companies, is the magic formula that creates these disasters. We live in a culture that encourages the treatment of symptoms rather than the underlying causes. This ensures a life of continual sickness with symptoms that manifest in a variety of different ways but generally arise from the same basic causes.

Yet again, who benefits from this? Drug companies, who invent a different illness for every slightly varying set of symptoms and sell their drugs until the side-effects of the drugs become commonly known as worse than the disease, at which point they release a new drug with a different name.

    Rinse and repeat.

I just wanted to say thank you for writing this blog. I go to WSU, and really, this whole thing is getting way out of hand. I came back to my dorm room with Good Morning America standing outside looking for people with the Swine Flu. Honestly, people. Shove 20,000 people into a small college town, and see how many people don’t get sick with the REGULAR flu and cold, anyway. Nonetheless, I don’t think the university is being irresponsible in any way. Most people who are sick are staying at home like they are supposed to, and if people are THAT afraid of it, they can just stay home, too. There is no need to the university to cancel anything because people have “symptoms.” Either way, I appreciate your common sense. It probably is just a big government scam anyway- I wouldn’t put it past them.

  23. thestupidamerican says:

Thanks for the ‘insider perspective’ Katie.

The sad part is, with all this noise, all the ‘sheeple’ are going to think anyone who says that the swine flu is all hype is crazy.

    Which is basically the point.

  24. Nurse says:

If there had been no information on taking precautions it is possible that more people will be sick. Viruses are ever changing, perhaps you need more information before you start misleading people. If you think that the drug companies are promoting their vaccines only for profit, I believe you are incorrect. Certainly they will make more money than most of us will make in a lifetime, but they are making a product that is needed. Ever heard of Supply and Demand? Look back at the amount of progress in health care and healthier living over the past century. Lots of profit and lots of promotion from the Government and media. What would have happened if most people thought that the Polio vaccine was “Hype”?
The more that people are informed, the better off the whole population is.
I would not want to wait and see what would have happened if there was not the current blast of information.

  25. pat says:

nurse, i can tell you are a sweet person. but have you ever heard of eddie bernays? good to research. he was the double nephew of sigmund freud who considered himself to be the ‘father of public relations’ – he sold many things to the american people to their continuing detriment… cigarettes for women, eggs & bacon for breakfast, world war II, and many other things. learn to question – ‘follow the money’. and also research baxter and the vaccine they sent out last spring that killed the animals that they were tested on in europe… oh, my! there is such a tangled web, you would not believe. many bad ideas have been sold to us and to other countries… the world is not as it appears to be. there are those who think it is their right and duty to influence the minds of the masses. why? for profit and fun and power. ? do your research.

  26. Somehow, the whole Swine Flu idea seems to benefit only the big pharmaceutical companies who have developed vaccines beforehand (read: Tamiflu), in which these vaccines will expire if not used.

  27. CJP says:

Swine flu is the Y2K from a decade ago. All hype. All fear-mongering. Nothing earth-ending will happen. A make-work project for the paranoid fools running the drug companies.

  28. Johnny de Vulcan says:

Either it will flop, like 9/11 -and Y2K-or it is, as said here; it seems in-human. The reason is that IT IS. It is part of the de-population-agenda pushed by Bilderbergers for Illuminati-Reptile-Lackeys. THe fact that it has been predicted -though there are 20-30 years between registered BIG flus-and the fact that it comes at a time when EVERYTHING and every-one is confused and veak from the onslaughts of CHEM-TRAILS ,industrial and medical pollution, poisoning of water, soil, food, destroying resources with wars, theft of the earned values of whole populations, intense war-propaganda and obvious des-information via powerfull and covert :”The Sound of Silence-system”- all leads up to reasonable suspicion of attempt of genocide; medicin-factories would not kill the goose with golden eggs, just make them sick enough to continue buying their products-with by-effects, so there seems to be another agenda behind it all – and it seems to be in-humane because its agenda to de-populise the planet with 80% very well may be first step towards 100%-and a a take-over by those who´s visible representatives are 13 blood-lines occupying monarchies, aristocrazys, and owning the corporations that rule the countries, and the public? means of communicating “reality”. Its is becoming in-human because that is what we are being hypnotised to be;-reptile-brained which is accomplished with an overdose of alcohol ,violence and sex. -Why now-with poison in the syringes? a test to see if we will come voluntarily, like the alledged jews in orderly lines to gas-chambers? Or one more giant failure ,like 9/11-: They used to succeed by keeping all secret, this time it has not worked- remember they are few!

  29. Patil Hunma says:

I am writing from Mauritius, tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. We had our own swine flu scare fanned by the media for a few weeks and then it quietly fizzled out.

I actually published the following article in the local press:

    Swine Flu and Big Business

For the year, we forecast sales of Tamiflu to reach ¥53.0 billion, up 531.0%, due to expected resumption of government stockpiling in FY2009 and the ongoing recovery of the prescription rate for seasonal influenza. (p3) – Chugai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. Annual Report 2008

The recent announcement that the shelf life of Tamiflu could be extended by another two years got me suspicious. If it could expire in 2011, why did the suppliers print 2009 on the box? Was there a sinister motive underlying this decision to print an earlier expiry date?

We are also witnessing an unparalleled global scare fuelled by the internet and exaggerated media attention to a strain of flu. One has even come across online articles that extrapolate from the current small sample of 5-7 victims to conclude that the H1N1 strain prevailing in Mauritius is 100 times deadlier than seasonal flu. Even the practical advice that my illiterate grandmother used to give – wash your hands, do not sneeze or cough in people’s faces, etc – is made to sound like the latest scientific discovery.

Needless to say that this scare reinforced by front page reporting on every single victim of flu-related problems has resulted in mass panic and rush to hospitals and unnecessary strain on the health system. It has also created conditions for many people suffering from flu symptoms to come in close contact with one another and thus possibly catch other infections.

    Bird flu and swine flu
This scare is similar to the one that was created around bird flu. A bird flu pandemic was predicted by the United Nations to kill 150 million people worldwide. Did someone “invent” the swine flu when the bird flu “threat” failed to materialize?

One possible reason why the bird flu scare was not very effective was that it was associated with chicken and anyone who was not in direct contact with live chicken did not feel too concerned. The only ones who could potentially be affected were mainly poor people in the countryside. This unfortunately led to the destruction of thousands of chicken on a number of farms. We noted the same reaction initially with swine flu when a large number of pigs were killed in Egypt earlier in the year.

    Targeting the ‘Right’ Market Segment
It would appear that those “responsible” for spreading the fear did not want to repeat the ‘mistake’ they made with bird flu. It was soon decided (does this not remind you of the propaganda machine in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’?) that swine flu had nothing to do with pigs. And the media helped us to believe this. More importantly, the disease was deftly associated with some rich school children who could afford foreign trips, or wealthy people on a cruise liner off the Australian coast.

This also made sense from a marketing perspective; we are now targeting a segment that could afford the treatment either directly or through the public health service. It is rather strange that people in very poor countries (whose governments are unable to afford expensive drugs like Tamiflu) appear to be somehow immune to H1N1.

    The business of Tamiflu
My suspicion led me to Google search ‘Tamiflu’, ‘profit’ and ‘shareholders’ and I stumbled on the 2008 Annual Report of a Japanese pharmaceutical company (cited above) that was predicting a 531% increase in sales of Tamiflu in 2009 after a 78% fall in the previous year. Not many directors would forecast such a huge increase in sales unless they had a definite marketing strategy in mind.

One could also read a report on an 8% drop in profit at Roche reads as follows: “Sales at the flagship pharmaceutical unit suffered from the fall in Tamiflu revenue. The drug had seen healthy sales in earlier years when governments bought in bulk to stockpile to be prepared for the possible outbreak of an influenza pandemic.” The pandemic somehow appeared inevitable.

The same Google search followed by one on ‘Tamiflu’ and ‘Rumsfeld’ yielded a report that in 2005 President George W. Bush pushed for and won $7.1 billion in emergency funding to prepare for an influenza pandemic that was not even yet on the horizon. This occurred at a time when Donald Rumsfeld was Defence Secretary. It so happened that the latter had headed Gilead Sciences – the company that discovered and developed Tamiflu – for four years until he resigned in 2001.

Tamiflu is now made and sold by Roche, which pays Gilead a royalty on every tablet sold. Gilead made a loss in 2003, the year before concern about bird flu started. Then revenues from Tamiflu almost quadrupled, helping put the company well into the black. One need not be a financial wizard to guess what the impact of the current swine flu scare on Gilead’s results would be.

    Manipulation and lies?
It would not be proper to jump to conclusion and speak about foul play, manipulation or lies. But what would prevent us from remembering Colin Powell brandishing a tube containing some white powder at the United Nations in 2003 and presenting it as irrefutable evidence that Iraq had been manufacturing weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of that country? The rest we know is history.

While the danger associated with H1N1 is real and while it is potentially more lethal because it is a new virus against which most people have not yet developed immunity – thus the need to take all necessary precautionary measures – one may still need to be wary about the information floating around since the scare linked to bird flu that was also considered to be deadly did not materialize. In other words, the danger represented by H1N1 (however real it may be) does not seem to justify the scale of the prevailing fear campaign.

Cynics even wonder whether the pharmaceutical marketers are not trying to emulate their peers in the computer field where antivirus programs have to be continuously updated to deal with the threat represented by new viruses popping up everyday. Others are speculating whether this is not a ploy by some to divert attention from the prevailing financial crisis.

    Crying Wolf
If this fear campaign is truly part of a sinister global marketing strategy to boost Tamiflu sales – as early as May 8, 2009, I received an email from a local pharmaceutical company with the following subject line: ‘Tamiflu – pandemic flu preparedness plan’ – it would appear that with all the hype about swine flu we could be ‘crying wolf’ one more time. If this is the case we could be playing a very dangerous game – even though it is yielding huge benefits for some – as it would become more difficult to get people to listen in the future if we really have a dangerous pandemic. In fact, the sense of doubt and suspicion underlying this article is largely attributable to the bird flu hoax, to the size of the related Tamiflu business and its financial ramifications and to past attempts of blatant manipulation like the one involving Colin Powell above.

One idea to consider would be to authorize pharmaceutical firms (in low-cost countries like India) to manufacture generic versions of relevant patented drugs in case of WHO-declared pandemics and distribute them at reasonable prices in the third world. The only risk in this case is that pharmaceutical companies in developed countries may prevent real pandemics from getting declared as this would open the door to generic drug manufacturers.

I’m not sure if you’re right or not. But something you failed to mention was the history of this strain of the virus — the fact that it caused three deadly (one time extremely deadly) pandemics in the last century. And its an unpredictable virus. I see your point, and won’t disagree that Big Pharma has its greasy little hands in places it shouldn’t. But I think it’s just as dangerous to completely dismiss something as it is to exaggerate it. You don’t have to pull completely the opposite way to make your point valid. In fact, that makes your argument weaker, in my opinion.

  32. […] Or that big Pharma is coming in the night to steal your money in exchange for overpriced flu shots. Or both. Take for example, two graphs from the comedy website graphjam which I think capture the sentiment […]

  33. Swine flu does exist, and I’m not sure how huge the pandemic was forecast to be, but it does seem like the global medical emergency which the media experts predicted, does not seemed to have occurred. That news is a good thing, however is it because of staunchly committed work by disseminating information on how to avoid getting swine flu? Or is it because the risk was not that high?

  34. thestupidamerican says:

As with similar things in life, we can never really know exactly how something would have turned out had things been done differently. Most of the children didn’t want the short so opted for the nasal spray. According to my doctor, the live virus being sprayed up the children’s noses could be easily spread around the school. Ask a kid not to put their finger up their nose and what do they do? they put their finger up their nose. And do they wash their hands? NO. If there was ever a foolproof way to start a pandemic, this would be it. Why didn’t the school officials tell the parents of the non-participating children to keep them home during the “spray-for-all”.
